Gérard Boulay Sancerre Chavignol 2024

The Boulay family can trace their history as vineyard owners in Chavignol back to 1380 and Gérard has spent decades making the case that this village produces Sancerre in a category of its own. He farms 8 of his 9 hectares on the slopes of Chavignol on Kimmeridgian limestone soils, organically since 1990, with an average vine age of around 45 years. He adds no yeast and minimal SO2. The result is Sauvignon Blanc that reads more like white Burgundy: precise, mineral, and built to age. Citrus, white flowers, and that unmistakable chalky tension that only Chavignol delivers.
